24/January/2018 – Fatal MVC – “C” Shift

Incident # 18-00647 - A 57 yr old Bamberg County man was killed in a single car MVC in the 100 block of Lowcountry Highway Wednesday morning 24-January. This is the fourth fatal accident to occur in Colleton County since the beginning of the new year. At 02:36, a truck driver discovered the over-turned 2000 Mercury passenger car off the roadway near the wood line. The car received heavy damage. It appeared the car was southbound on Lowcountry Highway (US Hwy 21) and left the roadway at a high rate of speed in a curve. The car went down an embankment and struck several trees before flipping over on its roof. The driver was wearing a seatbelt. Firefighter-Paramedics from Station 13 located a mile from the scene arrived minutes later. They found the man still in the car with no signs of life. The engine block was cool, indicating the accident had occurred earlier in the morning. The Coroner’s Office was requested and responded to the scene. A portion of Lowcountry Highway was blocked for an hour during the accident investigation. The SC Highway Patrol was the investigating agency.

Engine 1, Medic 13, Battalion 1 and Car 112 responded. Captain Brian Rowe served as Incident Commander.
