02/August/2018 – MVC with Entrapment – “B” Shif

Incident # 18-05345 – Four people were injured in a two car, high speed head-on collision on Sniders Hwy (SC Hwy 63) at the Colleton/Hampton County line Thursday evening 02-August at 18:53. The vehicles collided on a section of highway that transverses the Salkehatchie Swamp and was actually a few hundred yards into Hampton County. Emergency Services from both counties responded to the incident which was initially reported to be in Colleton County. A west bound Mazda CX-9 suffered heavy damage to the front and driver’s side of the car and came to rest against the guard rail. The female driver suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was trapped in the wreckage. The second vehicle was traveling east bound. It was a Chevrolet Tahoe which overturned approximately 300 feet from the Mazda. It also suffered heavy damage. The adult female driver suffered multiple traumatic injuries. An adult male passenger was trapped in the Tahoe and a 4 yr. old female suffered minor injuries. Firefighters from Hampton County extricated the driver of the Mazda and she was transported by Hampton County EMS. Firefighters from Hampton and Colleton worked together to free the passenger of the Tahoe by removing a portion of the roof. Two Colleton Fire-Rescue Ambulances responded. Medic 13 transported the Tahoe driver directly to the Trauma Center at Trident Hospital. The male patient and the young girl were both transported by Medic 7 to Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. No medical helicopters could fly due to poor weather conditions as heavy rains continued to inundate the east coast for the past week. Sniders Highway was blocked for about 1-1/2 hours until the wreckage could be cleared. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

Engine 15, Medic 7, Medic 13, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 105 and Car 112 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Colleton Incident Command working on the Tahoe.
