31/August/2018 – MVC with entrapment & Air Evac – “A” Shift

Incident # 18-06039 – A Varnville man was severely injured in a single car MVC at 09:43 Friday morning 31-August. The man’s small Mazda was traveling west in the 5600 block of Moselle Road when it left the roadway and collided with a tree on the east bound side of the road. The car suffered heavy damage and trapped the man in the wreckage. Firefighter-Paramedics found the man semi-conscious in the car and began treating his injuries. A medical helicopter was requested. Firefighters used Holmatro Rescue Tools to extricate the man from the car. He was quickly placed in Fire-Rescue Medic 18 and driven to a nearby field to meet with the C.A.R.E. Flight helicopter. The patient was transferred to the flight crew, then flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 15, Engine 18, Engine 23, Medic 18, Rescue 1 and Car 105 responded. Capt. Matthew Owen Williams, Jr. served as Incident Commander.
