03/October/2018 – Fatal MVC with Air Evac – “A” Shift

Incident # 18-06903 – A 76 year old Bamberg County man died as a result of injuries received in a single vehicle MVC on Lumber Road at Getha Road north of the Town of Williams Wednesday night 03-October at 22:57. An off-duty Walterboro Firefighter drove up on the accident and notified 9-1-1. The driver was trapped in the car and suffered multiple traumatic injuries. Fire-Rescue Medic 7 arrived to the rural intersection about 9 minutes later to find a heavily damaged Ford Ranger pickup truck in the ditch. The south bound truck failed to stop at a stop sign on Getha Road, then struck an embankment and large pine tree, Firefighter-Paramedics began treating the man and requested the C.A.R.E. Flight helicopter. The patient was placed into Fire-Rescue Medic 7 and transported emergent to the Bells Elementary School to meet with the helicopter. A landing zone was set up in the front field of the school so C.A.R.E. Flight could land there. The patient was transferred to the Flight Crew and flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center. He passed away a few hours later. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
