03/November/2018 – Fatal MVC with Air Evac – “A” Shift

Incident # 18-07637 – A 39 year old man suffered fatal injuries after he was struck by two vehicles in the 1900 block of Bells Hwy near the Super 8 Motel, Friday evening 2-November at 19:05. According to witnesses, the man was riding a bicycle and entered the east bound travel lanes. He was struck by an east bound car, fell from the bike and was run over by a second vehicle. Bystanders provided aid until Firefighter-Paramedics arrived a few minutes later. Fire-Rescue found the man unconscious in the roadway with multiple traumatic injuries. He was quickly treated at the scene, then transported emergent in Fire-Rescue Medic 26 to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center about a mile away. He was in critical condition. The patient was transferred to the Flight Crew on the C.A.R.E. Flight medical helicopter who flew him to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The man was riding a dark colored bicycle and wearing dark clothing. He did not survive is injuries. The Walterboro Police Dept is investigating the accident.
