Three Colleton County Firefighter-Paramedics were among close to a twenty emergency responders from three counties, recognized by MUSC’s Children’s Hospital staff for exemplary care for the successful resuscitation of a pediatric patient. Kristen Dias, Samuel Potts and Christopher Dukes responded to a multiple vehicle MVC last month and were presented with a child in cardiac arrest. Bystanders had been performing CPR on the child prior to their arrival. The crews, worked the patient at the scene, successfully regaining a pulse and transported emergent to the Pediatric Trauma Center at MUSC. Dias and Potts were on duty staffing Medic 9 out of Station # 9 in Cottageville. Dukes responded to the scene off-duty. The team was nominated for the award by MUSC Pediatrician Asha Kumar-Veerswamy. Fire Commission Chairman LaVern Polk, Chief McRoy, Battalion Chiefs Jones and Campbell attended the ceremony held on the Greenway at MUSC Friday morning 24-May at 09:00.
