20/September/2019 – MVC with Air Evac – “B” Shift

Incident # 19-06566 – Five Georgia residents, including three children, were injured in a single car, high speed MVC in the 4600 block of Sunrise Road (SC Hwy 217) near the intersection of Yamacraw Drive Friday afternoon 20-September at 16:12. The sedan was traveling northbound on Sunrise Road and failed to negotiate a curve. The car left the roadway, struck a concrete culvert before colliding with several trees. The car received heavy damage in the collision. The two restrained adults in the front of the vehicle suffered fractures and other traumatic injuries. The three unrestrained children in the back seat of the vehicle received multiple traumatic injuries. Two were non-life threatening and a nine year old girl received a head injury. Fire-Rescue units stationed in Smoaks arrived minutes later. Firefighter-Paramedics requested two additional ambulances and a medical helicopter. All of the patients were treated for various injuries at the scene. The nine year old girl became unconscious while still on the scene. Firefighters landed the C.A.R.E. Flight helicopter in the front yard of a residence about ˝ mile from the accident. The child was transported by Fire-Rescue Medic 7 to meet the helicopter. She was flown to the Children’s Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. One adult female was transported to the Trauma Center at Trident Hospital by Fire-Rescue Medic 26. The remaining adult and two children were transported by Fire-Rescue Medic 19 to the Adult and Children’s Trauma Centers at MUSC. The SC Hwy. Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 5, Engine 7, Medic 7, Medic 19, Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 118 responded. Captain Roger Johnston served as Incident Commander. Lt. David Sauls was LZ Coordinator.
