15/January/2020 – Fatal Auto Pedestrian MVC – “B” Shift 

Incident # 20-00314 – An adult male died from injuries he received after being struck by a pickup truck on dark rural section of Ruffin Road Wednesday evening 15-January at 18:41. A witness reported to Law Enforcement that the man was walking in the east bound lane of Ruffin Road just before Greenville Road when he was struck by the eastbound truck. The man was thrown to the shoulder of the road. Bystanders called 9-1-1 and a private ambulance from Columbia drove up on the accident. The crew rendered aid before Medic 18 arrived and advised the patient was in cardiac arrest. Medical care was provided at the scene then the patient was transported emergent to Colleton Medical Center. The ED staffed continued resuscitative efforts but the patient did not survive. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

Engine 26, Medic 7, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 112 responded. Chief McRoy served as Incident Commander.
