26/January/2020 – Man jumped from Train – “A” Shift

20-00578 – At 21:37, Sunday evening 26-January, Fire-Rescue units and Sheriff’s Deputies were sent the area of Wiess Lane at the railroad tracks north of the Green Pond Community. CSX Authorities notified Colleton 9-1-1 that a male passenger on an Amtrak Train had reportedly jumped off of the train in Colleton County between there and the Edisto River. Emergency personnel began searching the area as CSX called back and reported another train reported seeing a shoe between the tracks near Hope Plantation Lane in Jacksonboro. Units relocated to the Jacksonboro Community, six miles south of Wiess Lane and began walking the railroad tracks in both directions. The Sheriff’s Office deployed a drone equipped with a thermal imaging camera and located the man’s body approximately ½ mile south of the Hope Plantation Lane crossing. The Coroner’s Office was notified and Coroner Richard Harvey responded to the scene. Law Enforcement is investigating the circumstances of the man’s death.
