23/May/2020 - Fatal MVC – “B Shif

Incident # 20-03386 – A 25 year old Colleton County woman died from injuries she received in a single vehicle MVC on I-95 near the 65 mile marker northbound Saturday evening 23-May at 19:02. The woman was operating a Dodge Dakota pickup, traveling northbound on I-95 when she lost control, crossed both lanes of the highway and struck the side of the bridge over Weans Rd. The vehicle then crossed back over both lanes and overturned several times in the median before landing on the roof against the guardrail on the southbound side of the highway. There were two unrestrained occupants in the truck. The woman was ejected and found near the edge of the median next to the southbound lanes of the highway. Callers to 9-1-1 reported she was unconscious. The male occupant received non-life threatening traumatic injuries and was able to crawl out of the truck on his own. The vehicle receive heavy damage. Several people stopped to render aid. Fire-Rescue units arrived minutes later and began providing care to the critically injured woman. A medical helicopter was requested and a LZ was established on the Interstate, however the patient went into cardiac arrest and was transported by Fire-Rescue Medic 26 emergent to Colleton Medical Center with additional Firefighter-Paramedics onboard assisting with her care. The ED Staff worked diligently on the patient but she did not survive her injuries. The male occupant was transported to Colleton Medical Center in stable condition by Fire-Rescue Medic 19. Both sides of the Interstate were down to a single lane for nearly two hours while the SC Highway Patrol conducted their investigation.

Engine 5, Engine 26, Medic 19, Medic 26, Rescue 1, Battalion 1 and Car 112 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
