16/July/2020 – Fatal MVC with ejection and Entrapment – “B” Shift 

Incident # 20-04801 – Three people were killed in a two vehicle head-on collision on Hendersonville Hwy (US Hwy 17-A) just south of Ritter Road Thursday afternoon 16-July at 13:09. A northbound Honda Odyssey mini-van traveling at a high rate of speed, crossed into the southbound lane in a curve striking a northbound Mercedes head-on. Both vehicles received heavy damage. The Honda rolled over on its side and the Mercedes overturned. The 19 yr. old male driver of the Honda was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the minivan. The Honda caught fire following the collision. A deputy who was in the area drove up on the accident shortly after it occurred and used a portable fire extinguisher to put out the fire. Fire-Rescue units arrived minutes later and determined the three victims had no signs of life. The adult male and female in the Mercedes were trapped in the wreckage. Crews used Holmatro Rescue Tools to extricate the occupants of the Mercedes. The Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and transported the three victims. Hendersonville Hwy in the area of the accident was closed for several hours while the Highway Patrol conducted their investigation. 

Engine 1, Engine 8, Rescue 1, Medic 1, Medic 13, Car 105, Car 107, Car 117 responded. Deputy Chief David Greene served as Incident Commander.
