22/March/2021 - Fatal Shooting Incident - "B" Shift

Incident # 21-01992 - An adult male was shot in the parking lot of Druid Hills II Apartments Monday evening 23-March. A 21:38, 9-1-1 received reports of the shooting. Walterboro Police and Fire-Rescue units were on the scene within minutes. Firefighter-Paramedics found the man unconscious and not breathing with a critical injury to the head and severe bleeding. Crews worked at the scene to maintain his airway and control the profuse bleeding. Crews intubated the patient, started two IVs and administered whole blood before departing the scene. The CARE Flight helicopter was placed on standby. The man was transported emergent in Fire-Rescue Medic 19 with additional Firefighter-Paramedics onboard to assist with his care. Medic 19 transported him to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center and transferred him to the Flight Crew. CARE Flight flew the man to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. He did not survive his injuries. The Walterboro Police Dept. is investigating the incident. 

Medic 1, Medic 19, Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Chris Jones served as Incident Commander.
