28/March/2021 - MVC with Entrapment - "A" Shift

Incident # 21-02130 - Two SC women were injured in a single vehicle, high speed MVC on Interstate 95 near the 47 mile marker northbound Sunday morning 28-March at 05:07. A caller to 9-1-1 reported the accident but did not stop and could not provide information regarding injuries. Medic 13 arrived about 8 minutes later to find a heavily damaged mini-van in the median and partially in the inside lane. They found the female driver entrapped and requested a Rescue Unit. Firefighter-Paramedics began treating the two women, who were both wearing seatbelts. The northbound minivan left the roadway and struck several trees in the median. The passenger was removed and placed in Medic 13. Crews used Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove the driver's side door and displace the driver's side sliding door to gain access to the driver. She suffered multiple injuries including fractures to both legs. She was immobilized and moved to Medic 13, then transported emergent to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident. 

Engine 1, Rescue 1, Medic 13, Battalion 1 and Car 112 responded. Battalion Chief SCott O'Quinn served as Incident Commander.
