12/April/2020 - Structure Fire - "B" Shift

Incident # 21-02539 - At 17:26 Monday 12-April, a passing motorist on I-95 reported a structure fire off of the 200 block of Mount Carmel Road. Responding units could see a thick column of black smoke from several miles away. Arriving units found the fire to be at the end of Faulkenberry Lane, which ends against I-95. The home was located in a secluded area and was not visible from Mount Carmel Road. Engine 26 found a single wide mobile home approximately 35% involved. A storage building behind the home was fully involved, as well as multiple items in the backyard. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed two 1-3/4 handlines and one 2-1/2 handline to combat the fires. Exterior crews used the 2-1/2 to knock down the fire before another crew entered the building through the front door. A third crew worked on the yard fire and storage building. No one was at home when the fire was reported and the home had no power connected. Firefighters had the fire under control within 15 minutes saving about half of the mobile home. The interior suffered smoke and heat damage. The storage building was a total loss. No injuries were reported. The fire appears to have started in an area where some work involving a torch was being performed in the backyard. The fire spread through the yard, igniting the storage building and then the mobile home. The Sheriff's Office recovered some stolen property at the location as well. The Forestry Commission and the Sheriff's Office are investigating the incident.

Engine 19, Engine 26, Tender 1, Tender 4, Tender 19, Tender 26, Tender 27, Medic 19, Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
