Incident # 21-02692 - Two cars collided head-on on Lowcountry Hwy. (US Hwy. 21) north of Phoenix Circle Sunday evening 18-April. The accident was reported to 9-1-1 at 21:03 with the caller advising a drag race had been in progress and one of the cars collided with a northbound sedan. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived several minutes later to find a large crowd. The male driver of a Pontiac Grand Prix had been taken from the scene in a private car and transported to Colleton Medical Center. The 67 year old female in the sedan received traumatic injuries and the collision complicated some previous medical conditions. She was in critical condition. Colleton Medical Center's ED worked to stabilize the woman and later transferred her to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. Lowcountry Hwy in the vicinity of the accident was blocked for over an hour until the vehicles and debris could be cleared from the scene. The woman had been traveling north on Lowcountry Hwy in a Chrevolet Sonic and her car struck the southbound Grand Prix in the northbound lane. Both vehicles received heavy damage, with the Chevrolet entering the woods. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.

Engine 7, Medic 7, Medic 18, Battalion 1 and Car 112 responded. Captain John Graham served as Incident Commander.
