06/July/2021 - SUV vs Motorcycle MVC - "C" Shift

Incident # 21-04733 - A 28 yr old Walterboro man was critically injured when his motorcycle collided with a SUV at the intersection of Jefferies Hwy. (US Hwy 15) and Academy Road. The motorcycle was traveling southbound on Jefferies Hwy. and struck the side of the SUV. The driver of the SUV was not injured. The motorcycle driver, who was wearing a helmet which protected his head, suffered multiple life threatening traumatic injuries. Fire-Rescue units arrived quickly and began treating his injuries. The CARE Flight helicopter was placed on standby. Firefighter-Paramedics transported the man emergent to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center in Fire-Rescue Medic 19. Advanced airway techniques were required to secure his airway and maintain his breathing. He was transferred to the Flight Crew, then flown by CARE Flight to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. He remained in critical condition. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. 

Engine 19, Medic 19 and Car 112 responded. Battalion Chief Scott Feather served as Incident Commander.
