Colleton County Fire-Rescue

10/18/2021

18-October-2021 - Funeral Notice
It is with sadness that we report the passing of Retired IDO Fire Chief Thomas Williams who passed away this morning 18-October. He was 91 years old. Chief Williams served as Fire Chief of the former Intercommunity Development Organization (IDO) Volunteer Fire Department stationed in the Jonesville Community in the early 1990s. The Department was incorporated into the County Fire-Rescue Program when the County consolidated the 16 volunteer fire departments into one agency in 1994. IDO became Station 13 and served the southern portion of Colleton County. Chief Williams was one of the kindest people you could meet. He was active in the Fire Department for almost 20 years, seldom missing a response in his district. He retired in 2011 at the age of 81. Many do not know, but he donated the land for construction of the old Station 13 on Jonesville Ave. and provided a pond on his property for the installation of a Dry Fire Hydrant, the only fire department water source in Jonesville. His contributions and friendship will be missed.
A visitation will be held Tuesday 19-October from 15:00 to 18:00 at Koger's Mortuary, 508 South Jefferies Blvd in Walterboro.
A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, 20-October at 14:00 at Williams Cemetery. 500 Jonesville Ave., in the Jonesville Community.
