07/November/2021 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift

Incident # 21-07998 - Firefighters saved a home in the 600 block of Capers Road Sunday afternoon 07-November. At 14:01, Fire-Rescue was dispatched to the location reporting a fire in an upstairs bedroom. On arrival Engine 1 found light smoke coming from the eaves of the two story, brick veneer structure. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed one handline through the front door and encountered high heat and heavy smoke conditions on the second floor. Visibility on the second floor was zero. They located the fire in a bedroom on the eastside of the residence and were able to quickly extinguish the flames. Crews pulled a portion of the ceiling in the bedroom and the hallway, but there was no extension into the attic. The owner's daughter was at home when the fire occurred and she discovered the flames on a bed in the room. She closed the bedroom door, which Fire Officials credit with keeping the fire contained in the room of origin until Firefighters were able to extinguish it. She alerted 9-1-1 and Fire Units who were enroute to the Veterans Day Parade, arrived about three minutes later. The fire is believed to have started from a candle left burning near the bed. The upstairs of the home suffered heat and smoke damage, however the first story received little damage.

Engine 1, Engine 19, Tender 1, Tender 19, Tender 26, Medic 1, Medic 19, Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Scott O'Quinn served as Incident Commander.
