02/February/2022 - Horse Rescue - "A" Shift

Incident # 22-00877 - Fire-Rescue units responded to assist with a horse rescue in the 600 block of Bachelor Hill Rd north of Hendersonville Tuesday afternoon 02-February. The request was received at 14:47 advising a large horse was stuck in the mud at the location. Deputy Chief Greene arrived in Car 105 to find the 28 year old horse (named "Hogue") stuck in a swampy area up to its chest. Crews worked for several hours digging out mud, cutting trees, pulling stumps and used a Fire-Rescue winch with several large straps to free the horse.  Colleton County Animal Services, the horse's caretaker, owner and a neighbor assisted in freeing the animal and cared for the horse during the rescue. Once freed, the horse stood up and walked from the scene under its own power.  It was later evaluated by a veterinarian and, aside from being very muddy, was given a clean bill of health.

Engine 8, Battalion 1, Car 105, Car 107 and Car 114 responded. Deputy Chief David Greene served as Incident Commander.
