06/February/2022 - Multi-acre Woods/Brush Fire - "B" Shift

Incident # 22-00977 - Low humidity and high winds caused the rapid spread of a woods/brush fire in the 500 block of Pellum Road Sunday afternoon 06-Feb at 15:29.. A man accidentally dropped a burning piece of paper which ignited the brush and quickly spread throughout a nearby field, endangering several structures. Engine 1 arrived to find the rapidly spreading fire and requested two additional stations and units from the Forestry Commission. Engine 1 worked the fire from a driveway north of the fire, while Engine 26 positioned south of the fire. Brush 27 was able to get into the field and worked on the head of the fire. Firefighter-Paramedics used hand tools and backpacks as well. The Forestry Commission sent two tractors who plowed a fire break around the perimeter of the fire. The combined effort kept the fire from reaching any of the structures. Untis were on the scene for several hours.

Engine 1, Engine 26, Brush 27, Medic 19, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 112 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic Frank Ptacin served as Incident Commander.
