15/May/2022 - Commercial Structure Fire w/Exposure - "A" Shift

Incident # 22-03709 - At 15:14, Sunday afternoon 15-May, Fire-Rescue was sent to a commercial structure fire at 87 Acorn Rd. Engine 1 arrived to find the building well involved. with flames coming from the front, rear and roof of the structure. Winds carried embers to the adjacent property, which is the City of Walterboro. The roof of the Budgetel Inn was also on fire. The City of Walterboro Fire Dept was also notified as County Firefighter-Paramedics initiated an attack on both buildings. Engine 1 deployed multiple large diameter handlines to the auto shop on Acorn Road and Ladder 19 set up between the two buildings. Ladder 19 worked on the motel roof first. WFD supplied water to Ladder 19 and WFD Ladder 1 set up at the front of the building behind Shoneys on Sniders Hwy. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire on the roof. Crews use a Blitzfire and one 2-1/2 line in front of the auto shop. A second 2-1/2 was run to the rear of the building, until Ladder 19 could concentrate on the auto shop. This is the second time in 3 months the building has caught on fire. Fire-Rescue and the WFD responded to the location on 30-March. The building received heavy damage in that incident and was condemned by the Building Dept. However, squatters have been living in the building, which has two stories on the inside. The building was gutted this time and the motel roof received damage. No injuries were reported.
