Incident # 22-04034 - A Florida woman died from injuries received in a single car high speed MVC on Interstate 95 near the 55 mile marker northbound Wednesday afternoon 25-May at 12:32. The 2011 Acura MDX was traveling northbound when it left the roadway and struck two large pine trees. The small car received heavy damage. The restrained driver suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was trapped in the wreckage. An adult female front passenger was also injured. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts. Firefighter-Paramedics began treating both patients while they were still in the car. Crews used Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove the driver's door and two hydraulic rams to displace the dashboard off of the driver. A medical helicopter was requested. CARE Flight responded and landed on I-95 north of the accident. The passenger was removed from the car, then transported emergent by Fire-Rescue Medic 26 to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The driver required airway management prior to transport and was treated by Firefighter-Paramedics and the Flight Crew. She was then flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center. Traffic on I-95 was down to one lane for two hours and blocked for about 30 minutes. It backed up several miles and traffic detoured through Walterboro most of the afternoon.
