29-May-2020 - MVC with Fire - "B" Shift

Incident # 22-04143 - A single car MVC involving an overturned vehicle sent one person to a Trauma Center Sunday afternoon 29-May at 13:59. 9-1-1 received several reports of an accident near the County Line on ACE Basin Parkway (US Hwy 17) about 8 minutes prior. A BOLO was broadcast for a red Chevrolet Impala that had struck three vehicles, fled the scene and was now traveling west on Charleston Hwy. (SC Hwy 64). Sheriff's Deputies responded to the area. Additional callers then reported the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed on Charleston Hwy and was attempting to pass multiple vehicles when it lost control and entered the eastbound ditch. The small car flipped over several times, landing on its roof and caught fire. The three occupants were able to self extricate. The front occupants were not wearing seatbelts and a small child was in the car seat, but the seat was not properly fastened. The child seat was dislodged and thrown from the backseat. A pregnant adult female complained of multiple complaints. Bystanders assisted her prior to the arrival of First Responders and set up beach chairs for her to rest in. The adult male and the child were not injured. Firefighters used one handline to extinguish the fire. An off-duty out of county firefighter assisted crews at the scene. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the woman on scene, then transported all three occupants to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating both accidents.

Engine 2, Engine 6, Medic 6, Brush 2 and Car 112 responded. Lt. Brian Drew served as Incident Commander.
