13/March/2024 - MVC with Entrapment - "B" Shift

Incident # 24-01989 - A multi-vehicle collision blocked Cottageville Hwy (US Hwy 17-A) east of Cottageville for two hours Wednesday morning 14-March at 06:38. The accident occurred on a dark rural section of the highway at the intersection with Indian Oaks Lane. A pickup truck pulling a trailer became disabled and was parked on the south bound shoulder, partially in the roadway. A south bound Chevrolet Trailblazer collided with the trailer causing the small SUV to enter the northbound lane where it was immediately struck in the driver's side by a northbound log truck causing extensive damage to the SUV. The restrained adult male driver was trapped in the wreckage. The log truck came to a stop north of the collision site and was across both lanes of traffic blocking the roadway. The log truck was not loaded. Fire-Rescue units arrived minutes later reporting the entire highway was blocked. They began treating the injured patients and requested one additional Fire-Rescue ambulance. Crews used Holmatro Rescue tools to extricate the driver. He was treated at the scene, then transported emergent to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center. One other person was treated at the scene, but denied ambulance transport. Sheriff Deputies rerouted traffic during the incident. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.

Engine 9, Medic 9, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 111 and Car 112 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
