Stations 1, 19 and 27 were dispatched to a head-on MVC in the 700 block of Bells Hwy. in front of Captain D's Thursday night 10-July-08 at 21:45. Medic 9 responded from the ED and reported two vehicles in the roadway, both with heavy damage. Apparently a small Chevrolet pickup truck crossed the center line and struck a full size Chevrolet pickup truck head-on. Both driver's were trapped in the wreckage of their vehicles. Walterboro Public Safety units also responded.
 
Both extrications were handled simultaneously with two sets of Holmatro Rescue tools. The driver of the full-size truck was extricated within 15 minutes, while the smaller truck received massive damage, the extrication of that driver took nearly 35 minutes. A female passenger in the larger truck was also treated at the scene and transported to Colleton Medical Center with the driver of the larger truck. The Lifenet medical helicopter was called to the scene. A landing zone was set up on the helipad at Colleton  Medical Center. The patient was flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston.
Traffic on Bells Hwy was rerouted for two hours.
 
Engine 19, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Medic 9 and Medic 19 responded. Battalion Chief Dan Barb serve as Incident Commander.
