Fire-Rescue units responded to a house fire Thursday, 17-July at 135 Franklin Street. The call was received at 19:51, reporting flames coming out of the house at this address. The first fire units arrived about 6 minutes later to find heavy smoke conditions with fire coming out of several windows and doors. Firefighters used two 1-3/4 hand lines to bring the fire under control. The interior of the structure was heavily damaged and the family lost most of their clothes and belongings. No one was at home at the time of the fire. The resident had reportedly left the home for a short period and had left food cooking on the stove. The origin of the fire was in the area of the stove/kitchen. The fire then spread quickly through the residence. No injuries were reported. The Colleton United Way and Red Cross are assisting the family.
 
Engine 19, Engine 24, Engine 26, Tanker 1, Tanker 19, Tanker 24, Medic 19, Medic 27, Truck 12 and Truck 110 responded. Captain Tim Wojcik served as Incident Commander.
