Colleton County Fire-Rescue

8/15/2008

Stations 9, 19, 5 and 11 responded to a doublewide mobile home fire at 463 Gaines Circle north of Cottageville. The fire was reported Friday, 15-August at 1332, by a neighbor who saw smoke coming from the structure. Engine 9, Tanker 9 and Medic 9 arrived to find heavy smoke conditions with fire venting from the center of the roof. Firefighters made the initial attack with a single 1-3/4 handline and quickly knocked down the fire in the interior of the structure, which was mainly confined to the area of the kitchen. Fire had extended into the void space above the ceiling, which presented some challenges, but personnel were able to pull the ceiling in several adjacent rooms to extinguish the flames. A booster line was used during overhaul. Many personal items were salvaged.

A family of seven resided in the mobile home. No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

Engine 9, Engine 19, Tanker 9, Tanker 5, Tanker 19, Tanker 11, Medic 9, Truck 11, Truck 116, Truck 111 and Battalion 1 responded. Lieutenant Jimmy Jacques served as Incident Commander.
