Colleton County Fire-Rescue

9/23/2008

Stations 1, 5, 26 and 27 responded to an overturned vehicle on I-95 at the 68 mile marker northbound Tuesday evening 23-September. The accident occurred at approximately 18:12. The northbound mini-van lost control when the driver fell asleep, crossed two lanes of traffic before overturning and rolling down an embankment. The two elderly occupants were wearing seatbelts and were not seriously injured. They were unable to exit the vehicle. The van landed at the wood line. Firefighters used a chain saw to cut several trees to access the vehicle. A Glass-master Tool was used to remove the windshield. Both occupants were assisted out of the vehicle and back up the embankment. Neither patient wished to be transported to the hospital.

Engine 5, Engine 26, Rescue 1, Medic 27, Battalion 1 and Trucks 11 and 12 responded. Lt. Scott Feather served as Incident Commander.
