Colleton County Fire-Rescue

10/15/2008

In conjunction with CSX Railroad, Hepaco and the Colleton County Emergency Preparedness Division, Fire-Rescue hosted a train derailment table top scenario. The training room at Station 19 was transformed into an incident command post and employees from several different agencies participated in mitigating the mock incident. The incident itself involved the derailment of approximately 20 railroad cars and involved a fire and the release of several toxic materials. This exercise was held in real time and covered the first three hours of the incident. In the interest of realism, only resources actually available in the county were utilized with mutual aid being utilized in a time appropriate fashion. Some of the agencies represented include the Carolina Lowcountry Chapter of The American Red Cross, Colleton County DSS, Colleton County Emergency Preparedness, South Carolina Emergency Management Division, South Carolina Electric and Gas, Colleton County CERT team, Colleton County School District , Colleton County Public Works, Castalloy , South Carolina Department of Transportation, and Incident Management Solutions.

Colleton County Fire Rescue participants included Captains Sam Pinckney and Tim Wojcik, and Firefighter Nate Bristow. Lieutenant Scott Feather served as the Incident Commander and Firefighter/Paramedic Janet Laney served as the Operations Sector Chief.
