The following outlines the changes being made by SC DHEC regarding EMT certification:
|
In an effort to streamline the
certification process for our new EMS database, the Division of EMS and
Trauma will begin using a uniform expiration date for EMT certifications
and Instructor certifications.
Any EMT certification / re-certification processed on or after November 17, 2008 will expire on the 15th day of the month of their expiration. Instructor certifications / re-certifications processed on or after November 17, 2008 will expire on the last day of the month of their expiration. Example: EMTs who would normally expire between the 1st and 14th day of the month will now expire on the 15th day of that same month. EMTs who would normally expire between the 16th and the last day of the month will now expire on the 15th day of that same month. Having a uniform expiration date for EMTs and Instructors will make the certification process more efficient and will serve as an easy reminder for EMTs and their training officers to remember their expiration date. If you have any questions, please contact Don Whiteley at 803-545-4204. _______________________________________________ DHECEMS mailing list http://mailman.listserve.com/listmanager/listinfo/dhecems

SC DHEC will also require fingerprinting be conducted before each recertification date. Click here to view the memorandum and FAQ's regarding this change. |
Additionally, SC DHEC will be changing EMT certification numbers to be incorporated into a national database. This change is necessary due to the NEMSIS reporting requirement. The National Emergency Medical Services Information System (NEMSIS) is the pre-hospital medicine equivalent of the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS), which is used for national fire incident reporting. Your S.C. EMT number (for example, 80001) cannot be used in a national database as other states may be using the same number. In the next several weeks, an email will be sent out containing the last four digits or your social security number and your new EMT certification number. Colleton County Fire-Rescue personnel will begin using their new EMT certification numbers when we begin using Firehouse software for our patient care reporting on January 1, 2009. |
