Colleton County Fire-Rescue
1/8/2009
Stations 4, 7, 10, 15 and 18
responded to a fully involved dwelling fire at 535 Belton Lane in the
Ruffin Community. The incident occurred on Thursday morning 8-January at
0637. Neighbors called 9-1-1 reporting they could see flames in the area
of the doublewide mobile home approximately ¼ mile away. The structure
was located in a wooded area away from other homes. Engine and Medic 18
arrived 7 minutes later to find the residence completely destroyed.
Little remained except the frame rails and smoldering debris. Crews used
a deck gun to extinguish the remaining flames, then moved to two
handlines and a booster to finish overhauling the site. Firefighters
were on the scene for a little over 1-1/2 hours. Initial reports
indicated one person may have been home at the time of the fire, but the
resident was later located in Charleston. The cause is still under
investigation. |
