1/8/2009

Stations 4, 7, 10, 15 and 18 responded to a fully involved dwelling fire at 535 Belton Lane in the Ruffin Community. The incident occurred on Thursday morning 8-January at 0637. Neighbors called 9-1-1 reporting they could see flames in the area of the doublewide mobile home approximately ¼ mile away. The structure was located in a wooded area away from other homes. Engine and Medic 18 arrived 7 minutes later to find the residence completely destroyed. Little remained except the frame rails and smoldering debris. Crews used a deck gun to extinguish the remaining flames, then moved to two handlines and a booster to finish overhauling the site. Firefighters were on the scene for a little over 1-1/2 hours. Initial reports indicated one person may have been home at the time of the fire, but the resident was later located in Charleston. The cause is still under investigation.

Engine 18, Engine 10, Tender 4, Tender 7, Tender 15, Tender 18, Medic 18, Battalion 1 and Truck 12 responded. Battalion Chief Richard Sheffield served as Incident Commander.
