Colleton County Fire-Rescue

1/18/2009

Stations 9 and 19 responded to a high speed single car MVC in the 9000 block of Round O Road Sunday evening 18-January at 19:39. The southbound Nissan left the roadway, apparently striking a large tree head-on. The car then spun around and struck another tree backwards and was then thrown into a third tree. The car suffered heavy damage. Both occupants were found outside of the vehicle, one about 10 feet behind the car and the other about 15 feet from the roadway near the front of the car. Due to their injuries, it was suspected that at least one of them, maybe both were ejected. Both suffered multiple trauma injuries and were severely injured.

Heavy fog hampered emergency units during their response. Units had to drive about 15 mph to reach the scene. Visibility was near zero in some areas, but mostly about 30 feet. Medic 9 requested an additional ambulance due to the two patients severe injuries. No medical helicopters could fly because of the fog. Both patients were transported directly to MUSC’s Trauma Center in Charleston. The Highway Patrol is investigating to determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Engine 9, Medic 9, Medic 19, and Battalion 1 responded.  Lieutenant Jimmy Jacques served as Incident Commander.
