Colleton County Fire-Rescue

2/2/2009

Stations 9, 5, 19, 24, 27 responded to a structure fire at 1606 Coolers Dairy Road at 0720, Monday 02-February. A school bus driver reported seeing flames at the home as she worked her route. The house was located in an isolated area and sat about 200 feet off of the road behind some trees. Engine 19 arrived to find the singlewide mobile completely destroyed and barely smoldering. The crew had to cut a lock on the gate to gain access to the property. Most of the fire had burned out well over an hour before the fire was reported. Evidently the fire occurred during the night and burned undetected until morning. Firefighters used a winch from Battalion 1 to remove most of the roof and then manually moved the remainder of the metal roof. A booster line was used to cool down the remaining ashes and extinguish a power service pole that was still burning. All incoming units except two Tenders were cancelled. The home was not occupied. Fire units were on the scene for 1-1/2 hours.

Engine 19, Tender 19, Tender 27, Medic 27, Battalion 1 and Truck 12 responded. Assistant Chief David Greene served as Incident Commander.
