Colleton County Fire-Rescue

3/20/2009

We have received word from E-One that the new Rescue is nearing completion. They forwarded some updated photos. The truck still has to have the winch installed, which will be placed in the center of the front bumper where they currently have a stripe. This vehicle is larger/longer than the current Rescue, but the apparatus body was reduced in height, due to the 7400 chassis sitting higher off the ground. It required some rearranging of the equipment, but will work well in our operation. The additional storage space gained, will allow us to store all of the confined space equipment on the Rescue and eliminate the need to operate one of the trailers. This vehicle is also equipped with a breathing air compressor, so we will no longer be limited in filling cylinders at large incidents.

After completion at E-One’s Ocala Plant, the truck is traveling to Indiana to be displayed at the FDIC Conference the third week of April. This national fire show is one of the largest in the country. We should take delivery sometime at the end of April or first of May. Fleet Management has a great deal of equipment to mount on the truck, so it may be June before it begins running calls. This new addition, will allow the department to move the existing Heavy

Rescue to Station # 18 to improve responses on the west side of the county.
