Colleton County Fire-Rescue

3/30/2009

A midday house fire at 706 Azalea Drive, brought Stations 1, 19, 26 and 27 to the quiet neighborhood of Hyde Park at 1339, 30-March. Medic 27 arrived first, reporting heavy fire visible with 50% of the structure involved. Engine 26 was on scene within minutes and deployed two 1-3/4 handlines. Firefighters quickly knocked down the bulk of the fire and began ventilating the duplex apartment. The fire, which had been burning for a while before being reported, had reached the common attic and was spreading over both apartment units. Crews were able to stop the advance and contain most of the damage to the original unit. The origin appears to have been in the vicinity of the stove near the rear of the structure. The two bedroom apartment was gutted and suffered heavy damage. The second unit suffered only moderate smoke damage and no fire damage. No one was at home in either apartment and no injuries were reported.

Engine 1, Engine 26, Tender 1, Tender 19, Tender 27, Battalion 1, Squad 1902 and Medic 27 responded. Captain Scott Feather served as Incident Commander.
