Colleton County Fire-Rescue

5/05/2009

Stations 2, 6, 9, 12, 19 and 27 responded to a building fire at a nightclub located at 1935 Featherbed Road north of the Neyles Community at 0547, Tuesday 5-May. Engines 2 and 12 arrived to find heavy fire showing from the front and rear of the structure. The 40 year old club was a converted mobile home. It had three additions, one of which was a large social area and dance floor. The club closed three weeks ago and had no power connected to the building.

Firefighters used three 1-3/4 handlines to combat the flames. They made an aggressive attack on the fire and had the bulk of the flames knocked down within ten minutes. The overlapping roofs made reaching the fire in the attic space difficult. Interior crews quickly extinguished the fire in the club area, only to have the fire continue to rage overhead between the original mobile home ceiling/roof and the added roof structure. Interior personnel moved outside the finish the job by reaching the attic fire from the exterior. Units were on the scene for a little over two hours. The SLED Arson Unit has been contacted to assist local officials with the fire investigation.

Engine 2, Engine 12, Tender 2, Tender 12, Tender 19, Tender 27, Medic 6,

Medic 9, Medic 27 and Battalion 1 responded. Battalion Chief Dan Barb served as Incident Commander.
