Stations 1, 19, 24, 26 and 27 responded to a house fire at 2807 Heirs Corner Road at 1700, Friday afternoon 29-May. Engine 26 arrived with 4 minutes to find  the single story wood frame dwelling approximately 80% involved. Smoke from the fire could be seen several miles away. The man living in the house escaped with minor injuries. The home had no electricity and no telephone. He went to a nearby home to have them call 9-1-1 to report the fire. According to the man’s statement, he was cooking on a small camping type stove, when one of the small gas cylinders exploded.

Firefighters deployed two 1-3/4 handlines to combat the fire. It was quickly knocked down from the exterior allowing crews to enter the structure and extinguish the fire. The building suffered substantial damage. Three kittens were rescued from the burning building, however several other were not located. Firefighters were on the scene for 2-1/2 hours. The man refused assistance from relief agencies.

Engine 24, Engine 24, Tender 1, Tender 19, Tender 27, Medic 27 and Battalion 1 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
