Colleton County Fire-Rescue

6/19/2009

Station # 19 responded to a piece of logging equipment on fire near the 1200 block of Industrial Road at 1117 on Friday 19-June. The piece of heavy machinery was approximately ½ mile into the woods. Firefighters found the unit fully involved and leaking burning diesel fuel and hydraulic fluid. It was inaccessible to Engine 19 and too far to lay handlines. ARFF 19 was requested. With its four wheel drive and off road capabilities, it was able to maneuver down the logging path to within 200 feet of the machine. The front handlines were deployed with foam and the fire was extinguished. The logging equipment suffered heavy damage. Fire units were on the scene for over 2 hours with personnel operating in 95 degree temperatures.

Engine 19, ARFF 19, Medic 19, Truck 11 and Battalion 1 responded. Captain Scott Feather served as Incident Commander.
