Colleton County Fire-Rescue

6/19/2009

Firefighter-Paramedic Elaine Harvey has officially retired. After serving 38 years in emergency services, the 65 year old decided it was time to relax and enjoy herself. After working in the Charleston area for nearly 1-1/2 decades, Harvey moved to Colleton County in 1985, serving in many positions including shift supervisor. She brought a great deal of knowledge and experience to the job and her patients. Her last full time shift was 18-June at Medic 18 at Bells Crossroads. A dinner was held in her honor at Shoney’s on Sniders Hwy., Friday evening. It was well attended by friends and co-workers. So many people came to visit that the dining room would not hold everyone there. Melodie Harrison gave Ms. Harvey a book, signed by her co-workers. She was given a rocking chair as a parting gift from Fire-Rescue employees. Chief McRoy presented Harvey with a plaque honoring her 24 years of continuous service with Colleton County.

Harvey plans to spend her time fishing and hunting for bottles. She intends to continue her work with Fire-Rescue on a part-time basis beginning in July.
