Stations 9 and 19 responded to an ATV struck by a SUV in the 200 block of Griffith Acres Drive in the Town of Cottageville Sunday afternoon 28-June at 1815. The small Suzuki Quad Runner 160 (ATV) driven by a 14 year old boy, ran into the path of a GMC Envoy in front of 267 Griffith Acres Drive. It appeared the ATV left a house on the north side of the street heading to a driveway on the south side of the street. He drove into the path of an east bound GMC Envoy striking the SUV nearly head-on at the right front bumper. The ATV received heavy damage in the collision. The small SUV also received a good bit of damage to the front and right side. The boy was not wearing a helmet, hit the windshield and was thrown about 25 feet from the point of impact. He suffered multiple traumatic injuries, including broken bones and a head injury. He was unconscious and in critical condition when Medic 9 arrived about 5 minutes later. A medical helicopter was requested, which brought Meducare to the Cottageville Elementary School  to meet with the ambulance. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the boy until the helicopter arrived. He was intubated shortly after arrival at MUSC and remained in critical condition Sunday evening. Cottageville Police Department is working the accident. The

driver of the SUV was not injured.

Engine 9, Engine 19, Medic 9 and Battalion 1 responded. Lieutenant Jimmy Jacques served as Incident Commander.
