Colleton County Fire-Rescue

7/13/2009

Stations 1, 19, 26 and 27 responded to a well involved house fire at 1822 Wichman Street Monday morning at 0219, 13-July. The house was fully involved when a person walking at that early morning hour saw the flames. The home appeared to be vacant, but there was evidence of someone had been living in the front room where the fire originated. Power was connected to the building and was arcing when Engine 19 arrived. Firefighters used a deck gun from Engine 19 to knock down the flames, allowing two crews with handlines to finish extinguishing the fire. The older wooden house suffered heavy damage.

One firefighter was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion and transported by Medic 27 to Colleton Medical. He was released several hours later. Fire units remained at the scene for 3 hours. Traffic on Wichman Street was rerouted for the three hour period. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Engine 1, Engine 19, Tender 1, Tender 26, Tender 27, Medic 27, Battalion 1 and Truck 12 responded. Captain Scott Feather served as Incident Commander.
