Stations 2, 6, 19 and 27 responded to a multiple victim stabbing incident which began at 8372 ACE Basin Parkway, Ashepoo Grocery Store on Sunday morning 30-August a little after midnight. Medic 6 was on the scene within 2 minutes from Station 6 located on the road behind the store. They found two adult oriental males with injuries. The older man was stabbed once, receiving an injury to his lower back. The younger man had been stabbed in the throat and the side. He had lost a great deal of blood and was in critical condition. He suffered some associated problems with his injuries, including a very low blood pressure. The crew called for a second ambulance and a medical helicopter. Medic 27 handled the back injury and transported the man directly from the scene to the Trauma Center at MUSC. Medic 6’s crew controlled his external bleeding and established two large bore IV lines. He was bleeding heavily. Omniflight – Charleston landed in a field next to the grocery store and then flew the man the Trauma Center at MUSC.

There was a language barrier, but based on witness statements the incident took place about 5 miles away on ACE Basin Parkway. All parties were traveling together to Charleston. Another oriental male fought with the victims originally

stabbing the older man. His son attempted to assist, but was stabbed in the neck and side. The suspect then stole their vehicle and drove south on ACE Basin Parkway, back through Beaufort County into Jasper County. Another vehicle followed the man and provided dispatchers with his location. He then head north on I-95. Walterboro Police Officers and SC Highway Patrol were waiting on the man at the 57 mile marker and made a traffic stop at the 63 mile marker northbound. The man was arrested without incident. He had received lacerations from the previous altercation. Medic 19 responded, bandaged his wounds and transported the man to Colleton Medical Center for further treatment. Law enforcement agencies worked well together to apprehend the suspect without anyone else being injured.

Engine 2, Medic 6, Medic 27, Battalion 1 and Truck 12 responded to Ashepoo Grocery. Medic 19 responded to I-95. Battalion Chief Dan Barb served as Incident Commander.
