Stations 1, 26 and 27
responded to an over-turned pickup truck in the 8300 block of Mount
Carmel Road at 2122 Monday evening. The truck was traveling at a high
rate of speed when it left the roadway road, over corrected and lost
control. The truck over-turned possibly two times ejecting the driver,
who was not wearing a seat belt. Firefighter-Paramedics found the 36
year old Smoaks man lying in the roadway suffering from multiple
traumatic injuries. A medical helicopter was requested and landed in a
field near the accident site. The man was treated at the scene and
transported to the field to meet with the Omniflight-Charleston
helicopter. He was flown to MUSC in Charleston. Engine 26, Rescue 1, Medic 27
and Battalion 1 responded. Chief McRoy served as Incident Commander. Omniflight-Charleston was
back in the county three hours later to assist Medic 18 with a self
inflicted shotgun wound to the shoulder. The Johnsville man was flown
from the scene to MUSC in Charleston. Engine 7 and Medic 18 responded to
the incident. Captain John Graham served as Incident Commander. |
