Stations 1, 2 and 6
responded to a large residential LP gas tank leak at 1057 Magwood
Bryant Road at 2055, Saturday 03-October. Engine 6 and Medic 6 arrived
to find a LP Tank leaking product from the a hole in the bottom of the
tank. A vapor cloud was visible in the yard with the homeowner
standing in the cloud. Personnel directed the man to evacuate the
area, while they deployed a 1-3/4 handline. Battalion 1 was requested
for gas monitoring equipment. Tender 1, Tender 2 and Tender 6 were
dispatched for water supply. Firefighters use a fog pattern to
disperse the flammable vapors and cordoned off the area. Magwood
Bryant Road was closed to traffic. Representatives from Carmichael
Oil, the owners of the tank, were requested to respond to the scene. On their arrival,
Carmichael Oil personnel, along with Firefighters rolled the tank over
to insert a vent pipe. The vapors from the pipe were then ignited to
control the release of the gas. Firefighters remained on the scene for
2-1/2 hours. The scene was left with Carmichael personnel. Engine 6, Tender 1, Tender
2, Tender 6, Medic 6 and Battalion 1 responded. Battalion Chief Brent
Dalton served as Incident Commander. |
