10/10/2009

Stations 1 and 27 responded to an over-turned Tractor Trailer on I-95 at the 52 mile marker northbound, Saturday afternoon at 1539, 10-October. This was one of six MVCs that occurred Saturday during the brief downpour. The 57 year old Georgia man lost control of his tractor trailer causing it to overturned in the median. The trailer broke apart, spilling its load of lunch bags into the median. The truck came to rest blocking one lane of the Interstate. The unrestrained driver was still in the cab. He complained of several non-life threatening traumatic injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics immobilized the patient and extricated him through the windshield of the damaged cab. He was transported to Colleton Medical Center for evaluation. One lane of northbound I-95 was blocked for a couple of hours until wrecker crews were able to right the cab and remove it from the scene. Both lanes of the highway were then opened while salvage crews cleared the remaining debris and trailer from the highway’s shoulder. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

Engine 1, Rescue 1, Medic 27 and Battalion 1 responded. Battalion Chief Dan Barb served as Incident Commander.
