Stations 1, 26 and 27 responded to a tractor trailer MVC on I-95 at the 60 mile marker southbound at 0814, Tuesday 17-November. A southbound refrigerator tractor trailer struck another southbound tractor trailer in the rear, causing the driver to lose control and veer off the right hand shoulder. The truck crossed a ditch and drove into a wooded area, uprooting several large pine trees. The driver of the truck was possibly ejected. Firefighter-Paramedics found the man lying beside the truck in a pile of debris. He was semi-conscious, suffering from multiple trauma injuries. A second victim was trapped in the cab. She had non-life threatening injuries. A medical helicopter was requested, which brought Omniflight-Charleston to the scene.

Firefighters used chain saws to cut a path through the woods to reach the cab and the patients. They were immobilized on long spine boards and carried out of the woods. Traffic on I-95 was stopped for 15 minutes to allow Omniflight to land on the highway. The male patient was quickly loaded and flown the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston.

Engine 26, Rescue 1, Medic 26, Medic 27, Battalion 1, Truck 16 and Truck 111 responded. Asst. Chief David Greene served as Incident Commander.
