Station # 27 assisted Walterboro Public Safety crews with a house fire at 302 Verdier Street at 1752  Saturday evening 9-January. The caller reported smoke coming from a residence at this location. City Engine 1 found light smoke coming the eves of the small single family dwelling. An 1-3/4 handline was deployed to the structure while personnel searched for the cause of the smoke. City and County firefighters found the fire inside an exterior wall near the “A”/”D” corner. Apparently an unattended yard debris fire had burned unchecked through the yard, extending to the building. The fire had entered a wall and began burning inside the structure. Smoke traveled inside the wall and behind the vinyl siding to the eaves. The fire was quickly extinguished with the handline, causing minor damage to the building. Units were on the scene for about 30 minutes.

City Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3 and County Medic 27, Battalion 1 and Truck 12 responded.
