Colleton County Fire-Rescue
3/27/2010
Stations 1 and 6 responded to a fast moving grass/woods fire in the 2100 block of Possum Corner Road at 1458, Saturday afternoon 27-March. Engine 1 initially responded to the report of a grass fire in this area, but arrived to find the fast moving fire which was endangering several structures at Pineland Plantation. Additional units from Station 6 were requested to assist as well as a tractor from the Forestry Commission. Light winds help push the fire through the wooded area, damaging approximately four acres. Firefighters were able to keep the flames from reaching any of the buildings, while the Forestry tractor cut a line around the fire. Units throughout the county handled multiple woods fires Saturday afternoon, including responses in Smoaks, Springtown, Cottageville, Walterboro and Ritter. No buildings were damaged. Engine 1, Engine 6, Tender 6, Medic 6 and Battalion 1 responded. Engineer-EMT-I Mikey Banks served as Incident Commander.
