4/9/2010

Sixteen Firefighters participated in a week of Confined Space Rescue training held in the county. The two classes, course number 3310 – Confined Space Entry Operations and number 3392 – Confined Space Rescue 1, were taught back to back during the first week of April. All participants completed the 40 hours of training, along with firefighters from Mount Pleasant and Old Fort Fire Departments. The classes were taught at Station # 19. The courses covered the OSHA required elements for entry into confined spaces. Topics included permits, hazard recognition, air monitoring, ventilation, respiratory protection and PPE. Retrieval systems included tripods, winches and rope systems. Participants also learned about patient packaging, communications and conducted several scenarios. The courses meet the requirements of NFPA 1670. The Fire Academy’s Confined Space Training Prop was used during the courses.
