Six Colleton County and four Walterboro Public Safety Officers were among 17 students to complete the Basic Firefighter Course # 1152. The final practical exam was administered Saturday 10-April at the SC Fire Academy in Columbia. The candidates and Instructors met up with another class from Saluda to began the evolutions at 0830. The group spent all day testing the skills they had learned over the past six weeks at Station # 19. Lt. Joey Campbell served as the lead instructor for the course which included Jim Still, Chuck Moyer, Trae Flood, David Greene and Jordan Hadlin as Instructors. This basic course is designed to provide the basic skills necessary to get personnel operational and performing on the fire ground. Subjects include Firefighter Orientation and Safety, Fire Behavior, Portable Extinguishers, Protective Equipment, Search and Rescue, Ladders, Fire Hose, Fire Streams and Interior Fire Control. This course will satisfy the intent of the OSHA standard for basic interior fire fighting.
